As part of the course “Packaging Technology and Development” that I took during my exchange semester at Lund University in Sweden, together with Oscar Lindgren, Mathilde Hagander and Erik Hansson we developed Sounvinyls.
Our counterpart was the research team “Homecare”, that works with Home care assessment for elderly people. Due to the high amount of medical stuff needed to take care of some people, a lot of this thing were left and the patients house, therefore making it look like a hospital more than a place to live. We were charged with the task of making the home of the elderly people looked more cozy and home-like through the develop of a packaging solution.
The course consisted in three main parts. The consumer insights part was focused on doing applied ethnographical research to identify the user needs, the materials and solutions part taught us the most important things when developing a packaging solution, and finally the sustainability part helped us introduce the solution to the real world while taking in account the sustainability aspects of the product.
We identified that many boxes of gloves were left at the patients houses, mainly because the caregivers couldn’t take the gloves with them due to sterility issues. Also different glove sizes were needed because different caregivers visited the house every day. This is how Soundvinyls was born. It is a sterile vinyl gloves packaging that the caregivers can take around with them. It consists of a durable box with a specially designed lid and a flower pattern design that once is empty you can leave at the patients house and use for old gloves disposal. When the box is full the caregiver can take it back and easily recycle both the box and the gloves inside.
