During the first half of 2015 I worked in a project named Savialab, that was directed by one of the powerpuffs girls: Gabriela García. Savialab was an “Agrarian Innovation Contest” that aimed to empower low resources children from ages 16 to 18 (last years of school) that studied in Public Schools in the south of Chile.
The project consisted in teaching the teachers at the schools a design methodology, so they could help their students develop an innovation project that will compete as a team against the projects from other schools participating in the contest.
I worked as an Assistant Teacher there, specialized in the Product Design area. My job was to give feedback to the projects regarding the methodology and way of building the final product.
Some on the main instances of my participation in the project were two field visits, where i got to see the projects in their own habitat, and talk to the teachers, the students and the non-participating classmates.
The most important activity I think was the “Technological Camp”, this consisted in a day were the students spent on intensive learning about three areas: Product Design, Service Design and Communications. I was in charge of the Product Design area, were with Pablo Gaete and Benjamín Abarca taught the kids about the tools and techniques to build a prototype, and as an example made each group build a miniature race car.
