2015-2 Prostetik

As part of the course “Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” my group (Benjamín Benavides, Valentina Martínez, Benjamín Abarca and Cristián Antúnez) and I developed a project in which we solved two problems at once: PVC recycling and prosthesis design.

What we found was that PVC was a high performance plastic material, that had great mechanical and chemical properties, and that was being wasted. None of the recycling companies in Chile accepted this plastic.

On the other hand, prosthesis are expensive, and people who can’t afford them are force to use whatever they can find in order to replace the missing limb. Low cost prosthesis are unreliable, and break apart easily.

We decided to solve this two problems at once, and developed Prostetik, a PVC based prosthesis that costs the same as a low cost prosthesis, but behaves like a high performance one due to the use of PVC.

If you want to know more about the project, write me an email!

Also, here’s the final presentation, that resumes the semester work
